Every year the pattern repeats: a handful of toys go viral in November, stock evaporates by the second week of December, and resellers charge double for whatever's left. You can't predict the exact viral toy. Nobody can. But thecategories that sell out are the same every year. Buy from them in October and you're immune to the whole circus.
1. The brand-name building sets
Licensed and flagship building sets are Christmas's most reliable sellout. Production runs are fixed months in advance, and when they're gone, they're gone until February. If a rocket, truck, or castle is on the list, buy it early.
